━ About Us

A shared desire to use music to lift women’s voices brought together acclaimed Cantors Laurie Akers (Congregation Or Shalom in suburban Chicago), Rachel Brook (Anshe Emet Synagogue, Chicago, IL), and Rachel Goldman (Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, TX), as Shul Sisters, cantorial vocal trio. Shul Sisters, the first female cantorial trio in the US, has been collaborating since January 2019. Releasing the viral video, “I’m Gonna Walk It With You,” with Christian faith leaders inspired the Shul Sisters to continue connecting communities worldwide through harmony. Past performances include Park Avenue Synagogue (2020), International Lion of Judah Conference (2020), Women 4 Joe Inauguration celebration with Mayim Bialik (2021), JDC Global Women’s Summit Imagine More conference (2019), Jewish United Fund of Chicago Women’s Gala with Diane Von Furstenberg (2021), and the Neranenah/Atlanta Jewish Music Festival (2021). In the Fall of 2021, Cantors Akers, Brook, and Goldman made history as they were invited to be the first female cantors to sing on the bimah at the prestigious Orthodox Hampton Synagogue. With the fundamental belief that joining together in song reminds us of our inherent worth and beauty, the Shul Sisters continue to inspire people across the globe.
